Privacy policy

This policy explains what the Cook County Appeal Checker, run by PropTaxChecker, collects and what we do with it. The short version: we keep as little as we can, we never sell it, and we don't run ad trackers.

What we collect

• Lookups. The address or PIN you check is sent to Cook County's public data portal to find the parcel. We log a record of each check (the PIN, township, result category and estimate range, and the date) to count usage. Assessment data is public record.
• Where you came from. We record a short source tag (for example a link's ?src= tag or the referring website's name) with lookups, sign-ups and purchases, so we know which links work. It's kept in your browser's session storage until you close the tab. We don't use cookies for this and don't fingerprint devices.
• Reminder sign-ups. If you ask for deadline reminders we store your email, the PIN, its address and township, and the deadline.
• Purchases. Stripe processes payments and collects your card details and email under its own privacy policy. We receive the email, the amount, the PIN the kit is for and whether it was paid. We never see your full card number.
• Server logs. Our host (Render) keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, for a short time for security and debugging.

How we use it

To run the checker, deliver kits and receipts, send the reminders you asked for, answer support requests, prevent abuse, and count what's working. We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't share it with anyone except the services that run the site (Render for hosting, Stripe for payments, our email provider for sending mail) or when the law requires it.

Emails

Reminder emails are only sent if you sign up, and every one has an unsubscribe link that works immediately. After a purchase we may send one receipt email with your download link.

How long we keep it

Reminder sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Lookup and purchase records are kept as long as we need them for accounting and to answer questions about a kit.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from any email, and you can ask us to see or delete the information we hold about you by writing to support@proptaxchecker.com. We'll answer within 30 days.

Children

The service is for property owners and isn't meant for anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. Material changes for email subscribers will be announced by email.
